The FIXIN system relies on a novel lock between screw and plate. Rather than using threads to link the screw to the plate, the FIXIN system used the well established ‘morse taper’ effect. A tapering cylinder when pushed into an opening having slightly less taper effectively jams very securely.
Engineers have used this effect for decades to attach tools to cutting machines. The same principle locks the heads of modular total hip replacement systems onto the femoral shaft.

The lightweight FIXIN plate has a low profile and along with its locking screw interface makes it useful in the MIPO approach to fracture management. The FIXIN locking technology means that there is no need for contact betweeen the plate and bone. Contouring is not necessary saving time and morbidity. The periosteum and fracture site is disturbed as little as possible. The requirement for less screws than might seem appropriate is a further useful feature.

Conventionally at least three screws are placed on either side of the osteotomy (or fracture). Fixin’s locking technology has sufficient screw security that only two are necessary.
In a locking plate screw construct the function of the screw thread is only to maintain position in the bone, it is not additionally stressed by having to trap the plate between screw head and bone. Furthermore the AMI (resistance to bending) of the Fixin screw is greater than the standard cortical screw. Over 1000 cases of TPLO have been performed with the FIXIN four hole plate

Developed in Italy for human use, the FIXIN system is now available to Veterinary Surgeons. Following extensive veterinary clinical applications Veterinary Instrumentation is pleased to add the FIXIN system to our range.
Adjusting to the concepts of the locking method of plate fixation is such that we strongly recommend attendance at one of our FIXIN training courses.
